Kenneth Gustavsson – Images of Silence

Kenneth Gustavsson (1946–2009) was a leading photographer as early as the late 1960s. His photographs are characterised by a strong personal expression. With great consistency, he searched for the motifs of his inner visual world in urban metropolises such as New York, Berlin, and Paris. His rare talent for seeing and capturing the magic of everyday life makes him timeless and ever-relevant.

In the late 1980s, Gustavsson was one of the few Swedish photographers invited to participate in exhibitions such as "Just Images" at PS1 in New York in 1985, "Contemporary Black and White West European Photography" in 1987, "FotoFest" in Houston in 1988, and "150th Anniversary of Photography" in Prague in 1989.

Now, the Kenneth Gustavsson Estate is selling thirteen photographs by Gustavsson to finance a new book featuring previously unseen images by him. The works included in this thematic auction were printed by Kenneth himself during 1987–88 for the "FotoFest" exhibition in 1988. Several of the images are featured in Thomas Wågström's book The Magic Bar. Kenneth Gustavsson (2012) and have been exhibited at the Moderna Museet and Fotografiska in Stockholm. All photographs come with a certificate of authenticity from the Kenneth Gustavsson Estate.
