Post-War Design

The themed auction Post-War Design presents a curated selection of design objects from the 1950s onwards. The focus is primarily on furniture, though lighting and art glass are also represented. Characteristic of this period are clean lines, a balance between form and function, and the use of natural materials, steel, and innovations new to the era such as fibreglass and plastic.

The years following the end of the Second World War were marked by major changes, not least within the world of design. For many people, lifestyles became more relaxed, increasing the demand for functional and comfortable furniture. Scandinavian, American and Italian designers led the way, and in this auction we present outstanding examples of their work.

Renowned names including Bruno Mathsson, Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl, Hans-Agne Jakobsson and Charles & Ray Eames are represented here. What they all share is that their work has withstood changing fashions and remains just as relevant today.

We invite you to explore the auction and place your bids on your favourites.
