Armi Ratia, "Witch" skirt, unique, Marimekko, 1950's.

PRINT: VARIOUS LEFTOVER PRINTS
SIZE: N/A, fits XS–S
MATERIAL: 100% COTTON

One-of-a-kind “witch” apron skirt by Marimekko founder Armi Ratia. The skirt was made at the Marimekko printing factory in Helsinki from various leftover fabrics and given a deliberate worn-in look.

Ratia ordered the skirt for her young daughter, Eriika Gummerus, for a role in a private family-theatre play in the mid-1950s. Gummerus still remembers the skirt: “I was about 8 years old, playing the witch in the traditional play taking place in our Kaivopuisto home in Helsinki. The scene was set up in the Ratia living room with strict rules on how to act and behave. Armi was always excited for our plays and organized the costumes with the dressmakers at the Marimekko factory.”

The general impression is very good.
