The "Peoples of Russia" collection was created 1907-17. It was a commissioned by czar Nicolas II after the first general census of the population of the Russian Empire, in 1897. 74 diffrent ethnic groups were selected and a total of 146 individual figurines were made. Working material for the sculptor, Pavel Kamensky, and the artists who painted the pieces was provided by the collection in St Petersburg’s Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography. All sculptures are in the collection of the Imperial Porcelain Factory Museum. Height 19 cm.
