Helsinki Spring Sale F613

Bukowskis presents Helsinki Spring Sale – Finland’s leading auction for art, works of art, silver, and jewellery. The auction offers a selection of classic, modern, and contemporary works. Among the highlights are works by some of Finland’s most prominent artists, including Helene Schjerfbeck, Albert Edelfelt, Tove Jansson, and Reidar Särestöniemi.

Albert Edelfelt’s “Model Study for Queen Blanca”, presented in the auction, is a preliminary study for one of Edelfelt’s most famous paintings, “Queen Blanka”. The painting was created in Paris in 1877 and was exhibited as Edelfelt’s debut work at the prestigious Paris Salon. The subject is based on the legend of Queen Blanche of Namur – born in a province in central Belgium – and her husband, Magnus Eriksson, king of the Swedish-Norwegian union. The work is dedicated to opera singer Filip Forstén (1852–1932), who was part of Edelfelt’s circle of friends in Paris during his studies at the conservatory from 1874 to 1877.

The auction also features an exclusive collection of jewellery and silver, spanning a period from the 17th century to the late 20th century.
