Gideon Börje

Gideon Börje (1891–1965) was a Swedish painter whose artistic journey spanned several decades. After studying at the Technical School and Wilhelmson’s painting school, he was encouraged by Eric Hallström to wholeheartedly devote himself to painting. In 1918, they exhibited together at Arturo Ciaceli’s gallery on Strandvägen in Stockholm.

During the 1920s, Börje travelled to Italy, where he was influenced by Italian art and developed his style from naivism to a more balanced and structurally strong composition. His works were characterised by a classical feel, in which he sought harmony in both form and colour. In the 1930s, he expanded his colour palette and painted the landscapes of Norrland, as well as portraits of friends and colleagues.

Börje was a member of the artist group Färg och Form, and his works reflect both his artistic development and the aesthetics of the time. The works presented in this thematic auction offer an insight into his artistic career, where tradition meets a timeless sensibility.
