A Classic Selection

In the themed auction A Classic Selection, we present artistic practices by, among others, Bruno Liljefors, Helmer Osslund and Carl Fredrik Hill. The auction highlights the breadth and creativity inherent in classic art. The final decades of the nineteenth century were a period of radical development in European art. At the conservative art academies in Sweden, history painting still held pride of place, but an increasing number of young talents called for a freer approach to painting and therefore sought inspiration abroad, primarily in France. Female artists in particular encountered far better conditions in Paris than at home. The art they discovered there was the new outdoor painting, also known as plein air. Thanks to new technology in the form of oil paints in tubes, the new generation was gradually able to abandon the studio and paint entire compositions outdoors. They set up their easels in forests, meadows or along paths, creating their works while studying the light and movement of nature with their brushes. Welcome to explore the classic works in this themed auction and place bids on your favourites.
