Lindorm Liljefors – Nature Studies, Hunting, and Wildlife Motifs

Lindorm Liljefors, born in Ytterjärna, was the son of the distinguished wildlife painter Bruno Liljefors. Like his father, he developed a strong interest in nature and its wildlife at an early age. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm between 1928 and 1933, focusing on both painting and sculpture.

Nature, hunting, and game came to define his entire artistic career. As a trained hunter, he possessed a deep understanding of animal movement and behaviour, which is clearly reflected in his paintings. He also contributed for many years as a writer to the magazine Svensk Jakt.

His subjects are often drawn from the Uppland landscape, where the moose holds a central place. With great sensitivity, he captured the movement of wildlife—particularly the fleeing moose in the pale autumn forest—and created atmospheric works in which the stillness and drama of nature meet.

In this auction, works from a private collection belonging to Per Magnusson are presented. In the mid-1970s, Per was a hunting apprentice under Lindorm Liljefors for a year at his farm in Uppland—an experience that left a lasting impression on him. Per has also described his experiences in book form, offering insight into life close to the artist.
