More information

The furniture selected for the Modern Historic 1900-collection is an ensemble from a number of famous, iconic pieces by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Jean Sibelius, Aulis Blomstedt, Oiva Kallio, Kimmo Kaivanno, Timo Sarpaneva, Kimmo Pyykö, Yrjö Kukkapuro, Eero Aarnio.
Some of the furniture had been left out of larger production because they would have been too difficult to produce in larger volumes during the time they were originally designed.
The implementation of Timo Sarpaneva's steel tube furniture’s mass production was perceived challenging.
The prototype of Eero Aarnio's Champion- chair disappeared on its way to the United States, where its wider production was to begin.
The “Veistos”- chair (Sculpture in eng.) originated from collaboration with Yrjö Kukkapuro and sculptor Kimmo Pyykö. Pyykkö, known for his scrap and aluminum works, found a chair designed by Kukkapuro in a scrap yard and casted it as part of his piece. The steel chair has a relief depicting a sculpture.
Architect Aulis Blomstedt's “Kvartti” – chair (Quartet in eng.) is based on the Canon 60 -measurement system he developed, which aimed to base the modular system on body measurements so that different sized versions of the modules would be achievable by using the easiest calculation formulas.
Each of these iconic objects has its own stunning story.

Sculptor and jeweler Björn Weckström's designed acrylic table and chair was considered difficult to achieve the desired plasticity. A wooden mold was made to obtained the desired shape for the legs. The original model was designed in 1970's for the artist's own needs, and he still has two dining tables as a part of the interior furnishing. One unique coffee table and a dining table were manufactured in 2011.
