A pair of stoneware table lamps, Rörstrand., Sweden.
Bulbous form with a high neck, mottled glaze in blue and brown, one light point each, textile-covered lamp shades included. Signed R GN Sweden 672. Height including lamp shades 40 cm.
One with a repair at the lamp fitting. Marks and stains. The electric function is not tested.
Gunnar Nylund (1904-1997) was a Swedish ceramicist, designer and sculptor. Gunnar Nylund was active for periods at Bing & Grøndahl, for a few years had his own workshop, Saxbo stentøj, and worked at Nymølle ceramic factory in Denmark. For most of his working life he lived in Sweden and was employed at Rörstrand porcelain factory 1931-59 where he was also assigned the role of artistic director. He has become known for his many different animal sculptures in stoneware, but he also made lots of vases, bowls, lamp bases, etc., as well as tableware and other utensils. Nylund also designed glass for Strömbergshyttan.
