13 lots each sold for more than 1 million SEK!

Prestigious Collections and exciting provenance concludes Bukowskis’ exceptional Important Winter Sale.

- Bukowskis completes a very strong auction season with outstanding results and 13 lots sold over one million SEK on the Important Winter Sale. We are very proud of the great confidence our customers have given us at Bukowskis and we look forward to many more exciting auctions in 2018, says Louise Arén, CEO Bukowskis.

After a sensational spring Bukowskis was once again trusted to sell another five significant masterpieces from the J.E. Safra Collection. All works were successfully sold and started the auction with five consecutive sales exceeding 1 million SEK, which would at the end of the first day be concluded by a total of 13 lots sold for more than 1 million SEK.

Carl Wilhelmson ”Fiskarflicka”(Fishergirl) was sold for a final price of 3 307 500 SEK, Bruno Liljefors, ”Steglitsor” (Goldfinches) sold for a final price of 2 817 500 SEK, Eugène Jansson ”Afton” (Evening) was sold for 2 205 000 SEK, Anders Zorn’s ”Loppan” (Dressing for Summer), was sold for a final price of 4 226 250 SEK and Harald Sohlberg’s ”Autumn evening” (Nevlunghavn) achieved a final price of 1 102 500 SEK.

- These are magnificent paintings that have received a large international interest, paintings by some of our utmost masters. Bukowskis is incredibly proud to once again sell masterpieces from the J.E. Safra Collection, which is one of the most exquisite collections of Scandinavian art, says Carl Barkman, Head Specialist.

The auction’s first day also offered several spectacular works by international masters, such as Lucio Fontana, Georges Braque and Albert Edelfelt whose works all sold for over 1 million SEK. Georges Braque’s ”As de Trèfles et Verre” achieved 5 602 461 SEK and was thus the auctions most expensive lot.

An exquisite tea table by Georg Haupt with a decorative faience tray from Marieberg was sold for incredible 637 000 SEK and two Gustavian bedside tables also by Haupt, sold for 490 000 SEK, both fine examples of the masterly craftsmanship with exiting provenance that symbolized the auction’s offer.

- Unique objects with character and history are always sought after. Another magnificent example of this is the late Gustavian armchair by Ephraim Ståhl which achieved 367 500 SEK, says Henrik Åberg, Specialist Furniture and Works of Art Department.

We can also note that Baroque objects were the most desirable in the Silver department, the evenings highlight was the Polish 17th Century Parcel-gilt silver coin tankard, by Andreas Haidt, sold for a final price of 306 250 SEK.

- It is immensely gratifying when remarkable craftsmanship at the very highest level is appreciated by our clients. The Persian carpet "Golo Bolbol”, knotted with one million knots per square meter, which was sold for incredible 428 750 SEK, is a unique example and one of my personal favorites, says Anette Granlund, Specialist Carpets, Textiles and Islamic Works of Art.

The second day of the Important Winter Sale had an energetic start with the Asian Department, which offered several surprises with many bidders in the sales room. The most distinguished highlight was a delicate Chinese hardwood cabinet, which after an intense bidding between bidders from China, UK, Spain and France achieved a final price of remarkable 686,000 SEK.

Excellent quality and exciting provenance later ended this years final hammer auctions with great success. A unique Fabergè memorial collar in gold, enamel and pearls from St. Petersburg, provenance Nobel, belonged to the most sought after items, and a magnificent ring made by Boucheron, with a large blue cushion cut sapphire, achieved an amazing final price of 612, 500 SEK.

- With expertise and knowledge of who the buyers are, Bukowskis dominates the Nordic auction market. Bukowskis can proudly present fantastic results in all categories and without comparison, the most lots sold for more than 1 million SEK on the market, says Andreas Rydén, Deputy Managing Director and Head Specialist, Art.
