Bukowskis Asian Sale proudly presented sought-after items from several well-known Swedish private collectors, such as Gustaf Wallenberg, Emil Hultmark, Sten Ankarcrona and Stenbeck, to name a few. The jewellery department included an extensive range of jewellery of different types and expressions from different eras, where designer jewels are for sale – along with classic beauties.
The Asian department offered intensive bidding right from the auction start with bidders from all over the world. A number of gilded Buddha statues ended at high final prices while a few magical woodblocks prints by Japanese landscape artist Kawase Hasui received a lot of attention and ended well beyond estimate. The Asian department's foremost highlight was a wooden screen with lacquer details from the Qing Dynasty which ended at SEK 882,000.
There was a huge interest in the Asian department, travel restrictions led to more condition reports than usual from foreign buyers as well as intense online biddings which often ended high above estimate. The market is very strong, and it is clear that Bukowskis affluent customers looked forward to the auction, says Cecilia Nordström, Responsible specialist Asian ceramics & crafts, older European ceramics and glass
The jewellery department offered fantastic jewellery for all preferences. The auction's most expensive hammered item was an exclusive bracelet from the well-known designer Van Cleef, which ended up at the final price of SEK 367,500. Other highlights of the auction were a necklace with colourful miniature eggs from Faberge as well as a pair of earrings with cushion-shaped old-cut diamonds, both ending at SEK 269,000.
We continue to see a great interest in jewellery from the leading design houses. At the same time, it is wonderful to see the parallel increased interest in historic jewellery with old-cut cushion diamonds,” says Cecilia Andrén, responsible jewellery specialist.
