Top Sale for Akseli Gallen-Kallela at Important Spring Sale
The live auction Important Spring Sale offered exciting bidding and high final prices this week for works by Swedish and international artists such as Anders Zorn, Carl Larsson, Carl Milles, Lotte Laserstein, and Félix Martinez. One of the Finnish highlights of the auction was a painting by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, which sold for just over 8.6 million SEK.
The painting "Isbildning" (Jäätyvä järvi) from 1896, by the Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, was one of the major highlights of the auction. Depicting a winter landscape at dusk, the work was originally purchased directly from the artist and has since been passed down within the same family.
With a modest starting estimate of 1 million SEK, the painting attracted intense bidding. The final price reached 8,625,000 SEK – the second-highest auction result ever achieved for a work by Gallen-Kallela.
