This auction is a great opportunity to explore the photographic works by the Finnish photographer Pentti Sammallahti (b. 1950).

He began his career already in the early 1960s, and was one of the first Finnish photographers to make a lifelong career out of art photography. He is widely acknowledged as one of the most important Finnish photographers internationally. He has won several awards and holds the honorary title of Doctor of Arts. Sammallahti also enjoyed a long career as a photography teacher at the University of Art and Design in Helsinki from 1974 to 1991, and has published 25 books and portfolios. He has also developed new methods for printing and copying photographs.

Sammallahti's photographs demonstrate a high level of skill in composition and darkroom work. The photographs were taken in his home country as well as on trips around Russia and Europe. His beautiful, atmospheric images often convey a sense of tenderness and melancholy. His timeless moments are not exciting or special events, but simply peaceful moments from everyday life.
