Michael Vessa is an American artist born in 1948, known for his work in painting and mixed media, particularly collage-based compositions. His art is characterized by an experimental approach, combining various materials and techniques to explore form, structure, and visual perception.
Vessa gained international recognition with a solo exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York in 1977, titled Projects: Michael Vessa. One of his works from this period, Working Drawing for Northwest Room (1977), is part of MoMA’s permanent collection.
His artistic practice reflects a deep interest in spatial relationships, construction, and the visual expression of the subconscious. Vessa’s work often merges conceptual rigor with poetic and contemplative imagery, developed through a thoughtful and process-driven approach.
