Personal instructions for Major Sixtus Hjelmman (1869-1949) at the General Staff in connection with his trip to Stockholm in February 1918, during which discussions were held with the Society of Friends of Finland and the established Swedish Brigade.
The instructions mention, among other things, that Hjelmman is to meet with the Minister Gripenberg and deliver a copy of the letter; thereafter, he is to form a committee of at least two Swedish officers, preferably Captain Sven Wijkman (1884-1949) and Baron Johan Mannerheim (1868-1934, brother of Gustaf). It is further noted that the committee should continue the work of procuring war materials and hiring "officers and non-commissioned officers necessary for Finland's struggle for freedom," as well as to enter into contracts with them as previously applied at the recruitment office (for the Swedish Brigade) with the Society of Friends of Finland.
Hand-signed by Gustaf Mannerheim, dated at the Headquarters in Seinäjoki on 22 February 1918 as Lieutenant General, Commander-in-Chief of the Government Troops in Finland.
