The specialist's choice – Louise Wrede lists art favourites

Contemporary Art & Design - focus on contemporary art

We have spoken to Louise Wrede, Specialist Contemporary Art. Read about her thoughts on the content in this season's Contemporary Art & Design, auction 10 November. Also, explore some of Louise's personal favourites.

This autumn we are pleased to present an excessively wide range of works of art that will be sold on November 10. We hold a large international department of original works from Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Eduardo Terrazas and Irving Penn amongst others. We are additionally pleased to present three different works by Banksy. A few of the younger Swedish artists that have achieved an international career presented in the auction are, Klara Lidén, Paul Fägerskiöld and Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg.

If you want to collect contemporary art, what advice would give?
First and foremost, I believe that you should experience a considerable amount of art. Visit museums and art galleries, make it a part of your monthly routine, including visits once a month. Our auctions offer a great entry into the process of collecting art since we offer a diverse quantity of art of both a lower-price and a higher-price range and we present an extended spectrum of a variation of technics. Further, the resemblance for all art and design sold at Bukowskis is that they hold a resale value. I would also like to add that you should always put your heart into the investment of art.

What makes contemporary art interesting to you?
I believe that contemporary art is interesting since it reflects the time in which we live now. In addition, there are always new artists and new art forms to experience which is exciting. Contemporary art is constantly evolving. In previous years, VR has become a new exciting element in art. It makes me think of Lap-See Lams work “Phantom Banquet” where you get to experience a 3D animated world through a pair of VR glasses.

Marie-Louise Ekman, ”Hunger/Pink Silk Book”

This typical silk painting by Marie-Louise from 1975 has not been in Sweden since the day it was created. The work was submitted to Bukowskis by a French collector and the work has been exhibited at Musée d’Art Contemporain et Moderne in Geneva for instance. The work communicates a story about the vulnerability and impotence of women, themes often expressed in Ekman’s art. **[To ”Hunger/Pink Silk Book”](/auctions/626/113-marie-louise-ekman-hunger-pink-silk-book)**

Klara Lidén, Untitled (Poster Painting)

Lidén created the series of Poster Paintings through the use of old public posters in which she clued on top of each other. The sculptural work finishes with a white monochrome on top, in which she quietens the noise of the city that is making itself heard through the colourful and intensive layers of information. The works suggest new ways of performance and expression of art while using traditional techniques and material such as posters that have been used previously in time. **[To Untitled (Poster Painting)](/auctions/626/182-klara-liden-untitled-poster-painting)**

Joakim Ojanen, ”Just Relax, We Are Together Now”

The wonderful characteristics style of Joakim Ojanen infiltrates all of his creations; sculptures, paintings and drawings. The work Just Relax, We Are Together Now exhibited in the auction is an original piece of work composed of charcoal on paper that displays Ojanses representative figures entangled to one another. **[To ”Just Relax, We Are Together Now”](/auctions/626/162-joakim-ojanen-just-relax-we-are-together-now)**
