The poem is by a famous poet by the name Chang Chi wo lived during the Tang Dynasty. The poem can be translated to - From the Han Shan Temple, by the city wall of Ku-Su, the the chime of the bells, reaches the travellers boat at midnight.
KuSu is the city Soochow, about 1 hour from Shanghai. The Han Shan Temple (Cold Mountain Temple) is still there.
