Carved from a single piece of wood, height without base approximately 50.5 cm, height including base approximately 53.5 cm.
Fang figures from Gabon are often referred to as Byeri figures. These wooden sculptures are associated with the ancestor cult of the Fang people. The figures served as guardians of relics, containers that held the bones of revered ancestors. They were believed to protect the relics from harm and were also consulted for guidance and protection.

Wear due to age and use. Marks. Dry crack.
