Konstverk tillkomna på 1930-talet hör till de mest intressanta i Ragnar Sandbergs konstnärskap, vid denna tid ägnar han sig åt koloristiska fantasier och söker ständigt nya kombinationsmöjligheter, harmonier, och disharmonier. Han roar sig med oväntade färgblandningar, han kombinerar rosa och gulgrönt och prövar att få fram övertoner som kan uppstå när ett par närliggande färger som blåviolett och blågrönt spelar mot varandra. Han bryter också ner färgerna till ljusa nyanser genom att använda rikligt med vitt och förkastar heller inte den svarta färgen som skapar markering.
