Carl Johan Tegelsten, a mid-19th-century silver candelabrum, Saint Petersburg 1851.

A three-candle candelabrum in the shape of branches and leaves. Candle holders held by the branches, drip-pan formed by leaves. Acanthus leaf and rocaille decorating the base.
Height 36.5 cm. Weight 1905 g.

Tarnished. One similar drip-pan replaced, marked by Ville Porthan, Vyborg in 1927. One nozzle replaced. A minor repair in the base.

Provenance

The Wiborg silversmiths Wilhelm and Ville Porthan, thence by descent to the current owner.

Carl Johan Tegelsten, born in 1798 in Karis Lojo, Finland, came to Saint Petersburg in 1817, journeyman in 1821, master 1833-1852. Among his works, candlesticks and trays for the Winter Palace.
