More information

In 1855, Olaus Ohlsson bought a small inn on Östergatan and then continued with plot after plot until he owned almost the entire block. He was likely inspired by Tivoli in Copenhagen when he established his amusement quarter. In his book "The History of a City," Åke Jönsson, author and historian, recounts the emergence of Gröna Lund, as the establishment was called, several decades before the amusement park of the same name opened in Stockholm. The business grew from a summer restaurant to a comprehensive range of amusements.
