More information

Jani’s Art Tuning Shop

Jani’s Art Tuning Shop was a 2007 artistic project of artist Jani Leinonen in partnership with Bob Helsinki marketing. One motivation behind this performative installation in the environs of Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki was a custom repair shop for old automobiles, which made the notion of tuning more widely known in Finland. The idea was to rejuvenate old artworks in a corresponding way, making something better from art. The pricing of this enhancement depended on the extent of the tune-up. Some of these pimped artworks were then also exhibited at the Kiasma Museum.
About 140 works of art provided by the public were customised in just under a month, and the project gained widespread attention both in Finland and internationally. The artists involved in the project also tuned one another’s works.

Covered by droit de suite
