Important Toys auction achieves new price levels for toys!

On the weekend, Bukowskis held its traditional toy auction and 175 wonderful toys from all corners of the world and every possible era found new, satisfied owners. Important Toys featured high-quality porcelain dolls, Barbie dolls, teddy bears and in particular, a fantastic collection of vintage tin toys.

“It’s been great fun to get to work with this special auction, and I haven’t experienced such a lovely toy auction in all my 19 years as Bukowskis’ toy appraiser. That much was also apparent from the level of international interest,” commented Erik Ingare.

The doll section was of extremely good quality and an unusual doll from Jules Steiner, which after intense bidding sold for SEK 28,500 (SEK 34,963 incl. fees), attracted the greatest amount of interest. It was pleasing to note the growing number of younger and new collectors getting involved and bidding for the exquisite dolls.

The auction’s major highlight was an open limousine made by Gebrüder Bing from circa 1912.
“This Bing open tourer is a highly desirable item internationally, and it was in unusually good condition. It also had an interesting provenance. The car was auctioned in Insjön in 1915, when the Holm family (mail order company Åhlén&Holm, which later became Åhléns) moved down to Stockholm. It’s been in the same family ever since, and is now up for auction for the first time in 100 years,” explained David Brolin.

The car was the most expensive item in the auction, selling for SEK 67,000 (SEK 82,125 incl. fees).
A collection of 22 items of doll’s house furniture by Carin Backlund also drew a considerable amount of interest. Carin Backlund’s high quality doll’s house furniture is much sought-after by collectors, but rarely comes up for auction. The lot sold for SEK 16,900 (SEK 20,753 incl. fees).

“We’re really excited about the special auction for toys in the spring, when we’re hoping to see an equally good selection of submissions,” said Erik Ingare.
