Specialists choice Karin Aringer
We have spoken with Karin Aringer, Specialist Photographs and Contemporary Art, who talks about the selection at this spring's Contemporary Art & Design. She also takes the opportunity to list some of her favorite objects among the substantial amount of photographs at this season's auction.
Why should you buy photographs at this spring’s Contemporary Art & Design?
– I think photography as a genre is incredibly exciting. It's a technique that has had a very rapid development. In about 200 years, it has gone from glass negatives and large cameras with very long shutter speeds to digital collages and the ability to take pictures almost anytime and anywhere, even inside the human body. At the auction, we have a very varied selection of photographs. There is something for all customers, ranging from French classics like Edouard Boubat's black and white picture from 1950 to contemporary Swedish conceptual photography by Maria Friberg and Ann Eringstam. If you like cool images in larger formats, I think you should take a closer look at the monumental colour photograph of Dutch artist Ruud van Empel and Blaise Reuterswärd's large image of an atmospheric horizon. I also believe that Terry O'Neill's iconic portraits of Brigitte Bardot can appeal to many.
