A possibly Danish 18th century silver tankard, unidentified maker's mark.

Cylindrical form, standing on three ball feet, richly decorated with scrolling acanthus leaves. Curved handle with a thumb grip in the shape of a seahorse. On the lid, an inset coin: "II MARCK DANSKE. (Frederik III) PROVIDEBIT DOMINUS". Height approx. 14 cm, diameter approx. 10 cm. Weight 338 g.

Age-related wear. A couple of small cruptures. Dents. Scattered scratchmarks.

Provenance

Traugot collection no 62.

From the Collection of Ivan Traugott. (1871-1952). Thence by descent within the family. Traugott was a Swedish businessman and important art collector. An early member of the China club, investor in the Karlbeck consortium and good friend and sponsor of Johan Gunnar Andersson in the early 20th century. A large part of his collections can be seen today at Nationalmuseum and East Asian Museum in Stockholm.
