Kirsti was the daughter of the artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela. After the death of her father, Kirsti began to design and manufacture carpets, at her Tarvaspää studio together with her friend, Lahja Pelttari. The carpets were exhibited in 1932 at the Strindberg Art Gallery and received a lot of publicity. The unprofitable studio was closed after a short period of time.
