New world records for Swedish 20th century design at Modern Art + Design


Unique Josef Frank cabinet sold for SEK 3,246,250


Sensational record prices and ”White Glove Sale” for prestigious collections on the first day of the International Fine Art Live auction Modern Art + Design. In total, Bukowskis sold for 29 MSEK, the largest and most successful design auction ever at Bukowskis. The unique Josef Frank cabinet, ”Plan de Paris à vol d'oiseau”, accounted for the evening's most sensational sale with a final price of SEK 3,246,250. A new world record for Swedish 20th-century furniture and the most expensive Josef Frank object ever sold.

Axel Einar Hjorth sets several new world records with the iconic tables ”Mora” and ”Sandhamn” and the cabinet ”Lovö”. The decorative chest of drawers ”Flora” by Josef Frank achieved a final price of SEK 784,000, a new world record for the model.

The historical collection ”Hans Bergström - The Master of Light” resulted in a ”White Glove Sale” and a new record for the designer of model ”27”, which was sold for SEK 612,500.


– Finally, Hans Bergström has received the appreciation he deserves, as one of the most influential lighting architects of all time, says Jonatan Jahn, specialist design & modern craftsmanship.



Great international interest in Bukowski's carpet department with carpets such as "Magdalena yellow" by Barbro Nilsson, which with its sunny yellow color scale, sold for SEK 428,750.


– Glad to see that the large woven wallpaper "Venus and Tummelisa" by Carl Larsson was sold to a customer in the salesroom. Beautiful motif and fantastic colours.
